More than 600,000 passengers used the Alexander the Great International Airport in Skopje in 2009. Modernization studies are planned which will address the technical infrastructure of the airport.
The project comprises the construction of a new, 40.000 m² terminal building, with 6 passenger boarding bridges. Completely designed and planned by TAV design team and as a result of the know-how gained from operational perspective of TAV Airports, the new airport will be able to handle a capacity of 6 million passengers per year.
In order to increase the capacity of the airport the runway, apron and taxiway areas are improved and increased, in line with the capacity of the terminal building. The runway is extended for more than 500 m whereas the apron areas are increased by 25.000 m². A cargo handling facility capable of 40.000 tons of goods per year and a new administration building of 5.000 m² is also within the scope of works.
The improvement works and construction of the new terminal building of the Alexander the Great Airport of Skopje is planned to be completed in the relatively short time of 20 months, until the end of November 2011.
